CHOCOLATE AND BOOKS

A perfect match

People who enjoy book clubs nearly always enjoy tasting and sharing craft chocolate. One of the ways I learnt about chocolate was by introducing craft chocolate into my book club, the Louth Literary Coven.

We began over ten years ago and still look forward to savouring the pairings of books and chocolate every month.

Seeking out makers, origins and taste experiences to match the books has played a decisive role in my own chocolate journey, and I would love to see more people discovering fine chocolate through combined book and chocolate clubs.

CHOCOLATE BOOK CLUBS

The art of pairing books and chocolate

Book clubs are for those of us who want to share our experience of a book and to talk about how it relates to our own world. It is an opportunity to examine what we liked and disliked, how we felt about the characters, the style, the settings, the author and what we learnt from the themes.

Chocolate clubs are for those of us who want to learn about craft chocolate by sharing our knowledge about chocolate and comparing our tasting experiences. Again, we explore our likes and dislikes and what we have learnt about the styles, origins, and makers and again we talk about how we feel about the character of the chocolate.

Crucially, by bringing the two together, we can explore the intricacies of each, furthering our discussions and understanding of both. The connections between chocolate and text can be straightforward or creative. Either way, they are always educational and never fail to provoke discussion and insight.

There is just so much to share and learn from such unions. It works for both fiction and non-fiction.

Fiction & Chocolate

Fictional narratives inspire creative pairings that will delve into the merits of both book and chocolate.

The connections between chocolate and text can be imaginative. However, to be successful, they should always be educational by provoking discussion and insight.

Non-fiction & Chocolate

The chocolate curriculum and the themes of taste, transparency and craftsmanship provide us with a rich source of pairings for non-fiction titles.

Generally, there is a great deal to share and learn from such unions.
